Running with young Felix

For the past few weeks, I have religiously ran on Monday evenings but today I made the exception because Felix, 6yo, wanted to run with daddy. So I had to rush from Downtown to get home before 6pm so we could go together to the Duncan McKinnon Reserve, where he wanted to go training. Obviously I lowered my expectations from running 10kms around the Princess Park to about one lap (400mts), to my great surprise not only he ran one full lap but we did three extra 100mts sprints... a good training session.

Our 400m lap was an easy one for me but one of immense joy for Felix who not only did one very good lap without stop there was not a sis or older brother compiting with him - just him and daddy. For a few days he was bugging me he wanted to go running with daddy. Yesterday he wanted to come with me to The Tan but preferred to stay with the babysitter.

Anyway, today's session was a very fulfilling and a special one. Worth more than any other regular run, had the greatest of all company.

I finish April with the best mileage ever. Now May is not going to be so good... a move of house will force me to put my energy and effort elsewhere.

Hasta luego!

Best ever running month

Runs since last post:

Monday, 23 April, Brighton-Elwood, 8 kms

Tuesday, 24 April, The Tan, 11 kms

Wednesday, 25 April, Middle Brighton-Sandringham, 10.5kms

Thursday, 26 April, Middle Brighton-Sandringham, 10.5kms

Sunday, 29 April 2007, The Tan, 16 kms

This month: 174.5 kms

There is no doubt that April has been the best e-v-e-r month in terms of building distance. I accumulated a good distance by consistently running 4 times per week and running longer distances once a week.

Today's run were four laps around The Tan plus the extra distance to ensure I covered 16kms. We ran with the rain, which has been a blessed to our dry land. At the start there were not many people around but as time went by there were more people.

After the run, we met for breakfast at our usual place in Domain Road.

One of the best runs I ever had was last Sunday's. It was in the evening and my return from Half Moon Bay was on the dark and there was a nice wind and the sea was my good companion and the vipe a very pleasant autumn evening.

Making good progress consolidating my runs and legs feeling good. All positive.

So far time has been rather scarce to keep the blog up to date. Running has becoming a rather irregular activity in recent weeks. Rest of April will continue same and probably by mid-to-late-May I shall start getting more stable in terms of what days and distance I run.

I am organising a residential move and this includes purchasing furniture... Absolutely exciting but exhausting.

A naughty runner

Today: 22 kms - Middle Brighton to Ricketts Point (return)

I did today what I had wanted to do for about four months... I went for a long run along the Coastal Trail, starting from Brighton Baths to Ricketts Point and back again to the same starting point. I started running very late in the morning (10.50am) and I went easy and had an enjoyable time going through the bushes and running alongside many recreational cyclists.

Probably I should not have done such a long run when I have had an inconsistent two weeks of running, but (hey!) I set my goal that by end March/early April I will get to do 20+ on a Sunday. After seeing the children head off to the Peninsula for a few days I rushed to get change and have two hours of relaxation by running.

Last time I ran similar distance was before the Melbourne Marathon so it was an exciting morning. I felt particularly happy with this accomplishment.

And... great to read the race reports from those who did the Run for the Kids today...!
